The 2009 Weet-Bix Kids TRY-athlon Series
Release date: 23 January 2009
"The MBF Foundation has once again thrown its support behind the Weet-Bix Kids TRY-athlon series as part of our commitment to encourage young Australians to have a healthy start to life. With unhealthy habits and lifestyle choices linked to more than half of all health problems, this series is a fun way to help kids learn the benefits of exercise and keeping active - lessons they can take with them throughout life" said Dr Christine Bennett, MBF Foundation Steering Committee Chair, and Chief Medical Officer for Bupa Australia.
As the largest children's multi-sport event in the world, the 2009 Weet-Bix Kids TRY-athlon is fun and challenging with variable distances of swimming, cycling and running geared to children aged 7-15 of all abilities. No placings or times are recorded and everyone who enters gets a medal . The TRY-athlon series is a great way to inspire kids to get active in a friendly and encouraging environment where the emphasis is on enjoying exercise. The event motto is ‘Every Kid is a Champion'. Getting kids into the habit of daily exercise and activity is important to help combat issues like obesity later in life.
More than 15,000 kids are expected to again take part in the Weetbix Kids TRY-athlon, with the series to be held at seven cities and major regional locations from February to April 2009. Registration is now open for the national series which will see children aged between seven and 15 swim, ride and run their way around spectacular courses across the country. In partnership with the MBF Foundation and Sanitarium, the 2009 Weet-Bix Kids TRY-athlon series helps to inspire children to get off the couch and get active in a friendly and supportive environment where the emphasis is on enjoying the experience rather than competition.
